The Dyslexia Research Trust was set up in the UK by Professor John Stein and Dr Sue Fowler at Oxford University to fund cutting edge interdisciplinary research into dyslexia and other related conditions and to support free clinics to assess and assist people with these conditions.
The Trust exists to support research into dyslexia and related conditions, to make its findings available to the widest possible audience and to help people conquer their dyslexic problems. The Trust's work has already led to significant breakthroughs concerning:
- The roles of basic visual and auditory processing in learning to read
- Development of new diagnostic tests and highly effective visual treatments
- Nutritional factors in dyslexia and related conditions, by carrying out carefully randomised controlled trials of omega-3 ('fish oil') supplements
- Genetic factors that may contribute to dyslexia and related conditions.
